It sometimes feels like astrology is another language and it can be confusing to understand what any of it means. During a reading, an astrologer will explain the key terms but it is also helpful to know some of the central terminology for your own use, particularly when reviewing the Hey Let’s Rise weekly astrology forecast.

The planets are in constant motion, moving between signs and houses within their orbit. Within the signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini etc) there are 29 ‘degrees’ - like numbers on a clock face.

As they move through these degrees, they are said to form strategic ‘positions’ or ‘aspects’, which essentially determines how the energy between each planet is interacting - I describe this as the ‘tone of their conversation’.

There are six main positions referenced in astrology, each of which relates to the number of ‘degrees’ between two planets at one time.

1. Conjunction - (0 degrees apart):

- Two planets are in close proximity, amplifying their combined energies. It can signify unity or intensity depending on the planets involved.

- The tone of this conversation, between the two planets involved, is cooperative.

2. Opposition - (180 degrees apart):

- As the name suggests, this position represents the aspect where two planets are directly across from each other in the zodiac. It can indicate tension, polarity, or the need for balance and compromise.

- The tone of this conversation is challenging.

3. Trine - (120 degrees apart):

- A supportive position where two planets form a gentle angle, signifying ease and flowing energy between them.

- The tone of this conversation is warm and kind.

4. Square - (90 degrees apart):

- Like boxers going into a square ‘ring,’ this position is full of tension and can indicate inner conflict, obstacles, or the need for action.

- The tone of this conversation is aggressive.

5. Sextile - (60 degrees apart):

- When two planets get cosy in a sextile, this position represents opportunities, growth, and cooperation.

- The tone of this conversation is romantic and harmonious.

6. Quincunx - (150 degrees apart):

- Easy for no one to say and also known as inconjunct, a quincunx is an uneasy position between two planets, making them both present uncomfortable energy.

- The tone of this conversation awkward as it prevents either one from being in their full energetic power.
